Interesting New Contract

Postby Frost » Thu Sep 17, 2009 6:18 am

Iv just been awarded a contract I never through I would ever come across.

I just got awarded a DSL/Phone Contract to a supplier of Optus Services, Installing Business Grade DSL, VPNs, Multiframe, Ethernet over Copper, Fibre, PABX, ULLs, Phone Services, etc

And the prevision of ADSL2+ Services where Optus DSLAMS are present, in country Victoria

Some of the stuff I dont know and im assured Im getting free training in it.

But I just went through an arm and a leg just to get access to Telstra exchanges.

But this will extend my current work load of Antenna Installs, Phone line extensions and On-Site IT for a few companies such as IBM/JAV IT and SSA and Best

So what does this contract mean you install? Are you only responsible for the physical installation of equipment in exchanges (i.e. PDH, SDH, ATM, DWDM) or does this extend to design and configuration? Is it just the cabling for this equipment or the equipment itself?

Congrats on getting the contract too - sounds like you're going to be busy in the near future!

(P.S. "Business grade" DSL - hehehe)

Not responsible for installation of physical equipment in exchanges just jumpering (which I have no idea what this entails as iv only ever done MDF stuff IE from the telstra side of the MDF to the client side, but apparently ill be "shown" on my first time)

The Majority of it is Installation is at client sites installing NTU, Routers and wait for it Speedstream modems LOL (only for smallsmall business) onto a DSL line or ULL

NTU for Telstra's BDSL service is the ADTRAN 234.

Speedstream? :-)

The router is 10.0.0.137 for some stupid reason

I got to play with my Cisco 878 today, after a few set backs and recalling my Cisco I orginally fucked up the startup config and stuffed the passwords, then I had to do password recovery.

Optus has a great program for us, all I have to do is type in the Order Number, Router Name and DSLAM Management address and client and it pumps out the config and I dump it into the router, gotta get it to work on my mac thou.

Whats interesting though which is a little fooked but yeah, is Telstra marks the Jumper on the MDF at either end IE the Exchange near the Optus DSLAM and we have to jumper at the exchange and on the MDF into the patch panel, fairly stuffed up but I suppose Telstra owns the copper, but today it was already done because using a Telstra DSLAM.

I just wanna keep it quite but I got paid just under $500 to do 2hrs of work thats a raw figure thou but there is alot more money in this an Foxtel thats for sure.
