WAPol in car data communications

Postby toadmay » Mon Mar 23, 2009 7:22 pm

WAPol have installed a multitude of these devices to enable the Dispatchers at Police Operations Centre (POC) to send jobs to both vehicles and motorcycles. The basic radio data box is based on the attached document. At the POC the incoming data is "routed" by the Message Switch which was installed by Ansaldo (see doveshak for a company brief) out to vehicles and searches (licence registration address vehicle and person searches) are processed by a main frame computer at Pol HQ in the city and responses then sent out to the appropriate vehicles.

in the metro area there have been 17 radio towers installed to allow all vehicles to be able to log into the network from ocean reef in the north to mandurah in the south and midland to the east, essentially it's a self healing network with vehicles logging onto a tower and then when it moves out of the towers range it logs into the next tower as required. Will post more info as it springs to mind. I'll attach a document on the Gemini modem which allows the data to be transmitted via the radio network.

Will post the installation manual when Blacky allows PDF's to be uploaded
