NBNCo Architecture.

Postby Jimmeh » Sat Sep 26, 2009 12:18 pm

Interesting story over at ITNews regarding the future of the NBN.

The network is planned to be based on GPON technology which is basically an optical splitter providing 32-256 customers time based provider access. The technology allows for CATV and POTS services to be run as well as ethernet. This allows for existing services to coexist during the transition to IP based TV and Voice services.

I'd imagine this would be backhauled through traditional DWDM systems. Networking is getting interesting.

So something like this?
I take it this way their are multiple ways of connecting a home.
FTTC (curb) seems to me like it would be the easiest and fastest method.

what does it mean by 32-256??
