The Sentry Project

Image

I came across this little backyard project and thought i would give it a crack. I was intrigued at the power of the software!
and thought i should give it a crack.
Basically its an autonomous tracking and firing system that will allow you to connect any type of projectile system to it.
I purchased the kit from the bloke running the site and will keep you informed on the project.

Now the only question is what kind of system do i want to hook up to it. Hose or Paintball? If only i could find an automatic BB-gun ;)

Have decided my first setup will be a water turret!

Managed to get some parts in the mail the other day, still waiting for a couple more servos (cheaper ones to test with) Not all that keen on killing the Hitec HS-5645MG servos as they cost $99 in Australia.

Also just waiting on an IR camera and USB analogue to digital video converter for the camera.
As soon as i have this i will begin assembly.

Was also toying with the idea of a wireless RS232 extender. This way i could control the servo controller wirelessly through to the PC. Anyone know of some cheap models? most i have seen are very expensive. Oh well guess i will stick with the cable for now.

Thats it for this update, hopefully will have it running next.

How does the battle switch hookup to the servo controller and the power for the solenoid?? Just curious.

The pictures below are of the example I'm working towards. The second image is the connection diagram for the battleswitch. Funnily enough lots of robotics dudes use them to activate all kinds of equipment. It basically allows a servo controller to activate/deactivate a device the same way a servo is activated by the user.

Finally found a nice solid base to use (a mate let me borrow his $400 camera tripod...)
Mounted a piece of wood to the top for the base and attached the pan/tilt arm.

now for a bit of playing around to see where everything will fit.
Will also need to find a laser pointer to calibrate it.

I know they are a little blurry but here are a couple from the nearly completed water sentry.
(And yes a video is coming)

This is the first real test after completing the initial build. (Indoors, no water....sorry)
Probably best to double click on the video and watch on youtube, bigger is always better!

Put that by the side of the road and people would think you have a speed camera! Looks good mate. Can't wait to see it with a paintball gun attached. Might even come down to the field and watch.
