Postby rochedale_scan » Mon Apr 13, 2009 10:06 pm

Hi there guys,

I am looking to buy some RG213 and was wondering if anyone knew the best place price wise to buy from, im in QLD but would pay shipping if necessary, also are connectors larger than the regular RG58 ones ?

Cheers Shane

RG213B/U goes for about $520 per 100m reel. Cheaper the more you buy. So that's $5.20 per meter. It will work out cheaper for companies to buy in bulk so you may find it cheaper per meter at a large electrical wholesaler. I'll have a look through the books.

As for the connectors, RG58 has a diameter of about 4.9mm as opposed to RG213 at 10mm.
Id say you'd need a different connector but its hard to say without having it in front of me. Will confirm tomorrow.

just talked to one of the boys, you wont get a 58 crimp connector on 213 cable. you should get rg58 connectors on rg223 though

Thanks for those comments, I have been looking around myself and the cheapest I have found is 3.95 p/m from https://www.contactcom.net.au/index.php ... &Itemid=53 and I will get free shipping if I buy my new antenna from there aswell.

Cheers Shane

Shane, that figure of 3.95 p/m is if you buy how much??? Its just per meter hey..

Ill buy some too if it saves us some money... bulk order is probably the way to go.

As for connectors probably just use these;

https://www.contactcom.net.au/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=shop.flypage&product_id=598&category_id=227&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=53

Seems they are the same price as the 58 types..

What are you guys using 213 cable for?
Its no good for WiFi, better off with CNT-400 but if it is only for a CB radio - no probs.

CB Radio buddy, apparently there is a better quality of 213 cable hence the reason the price varies.

RG213 is a better cable than RG58 for radio use in a fixed situation. RG58 is fine for mobile use, mainly due to its size and relativley short runs that will be used. For longer fixed runs, RG213 has much less loss per meter than 58.
RG58 connectors will not fit RG213, no matter how hard you try.

If you want to use smaller diam. cable, with much better freq response than rg58, use rg 223. it looks very similar, and you can use rg58 connectors.

There is no way you can fit rg58 connectors on rg213 (don't get 213 and 223 mixed up!)
